MUSIC: Tinashe's "Joyride"
Updated: Jun 9, 2019
Welcome to the newest section of my blog! This is where I will be sharing my experiences and thoughts on the TV series, movies and music I come across. Shall we begin?
Tinashe's Joyride...Let's Get into this:
Tinashe dropped her sophomore album called "Joyride" this past Friday. The album includes collaborations from Little Dragon, Offset, French Montana, Future, and Ty Dolla $ign. As many of her fans would say, the album was "long overdue."
First and foremost, I am not the biggest fan of Tinashe. Prior to this album I only knew and listened to her song "2 On" feat. Schoolboy Q & "All My Friends" by Snakehips where she was featured alongside Chance the Rapper.
I am not saying she is a bad artist and I never really understood why she receives so much slander and no respect on Twitter. However, her music just doesn't speak to me and there's nothing wrong with that.
My friends on the other hand... LOVE Tinashe and everything she stands for. After pressuring me countless times to show Tinashe some love, I finally decided to give the album a listen. Despite my usual lack of interest in Tinashe, I must say her new album "Joyride" is LIT. The album is very catchy and the production is quite nice. I was shocked to find myself adding over half of the songs on the album to my playlist after one listen. So let's talk about my Top 3 favorites:
1. Fire and Flames---
A beautiful track that really stands out! It is the last song on the album and is much calmer and slower than the other 12 songs. It showcases Tinashe's vocals and does so over a piano ballad. A great way to close the album.
*For some odd reason, this song also reminds me of Mandy Moore's song in A Walk to Remember. Specifically, the part where Jamie was singing in the school play and Landon was watching her, mesmerized by her beauty.
2. Stuck with Me ft. Little Dragon---
Little Dragon is a Swedish electronic music band and believe me when I tell you this track is it! Somehow I overlooked how great this song was the first time through.
It wasn't until I played her album the second time while brushing my teeth the next morning that I realized. The song has been on repeat ever since. I love when artists from different genres collaborate, it doesn't happen too often but when it does the product is quite nice.
3. No Contest---
This was a hard pick for me as I didn't know which one I enjoyed more. It was a close call between "No Contest" and "Faded Love" but I think "No Contest" takes the win. The track is a bop. It is very catchy and upbeat. The lyrics are relatable and it just sounds great overall.
If you haven't had the chance to listen to the album, you should! Tinashe really shocked me with this once. She shocked me so much, I had to write about it.
If you listened to the album, what are your thoughts about it and your favorite songs? Let me know in the comments section below.
